Harray Track
This is a 70-minute bush track that can be done as a return loop including Kauri Block Walk, sea views, and walk back through town viewing historic buildings.
- track category: Intermediate
- track length: loop is approx. 6-km return
- walking time: from 70 min to 2.5 hr
- track start location: see map below
- km from town: in town, with three access point
Track Description: Start from either 356 Wharf Rd, 5 Harbour View Rd or 2365 Rings Rd, Coromandel. The three access points are ½ and 2 km northwest or 2km northeast of town (dogs okay). You can easily park in town and do the return loop from there.
The actual Harray Track is 70 min one way but may be done as a 2½-hr return loop by including the Kauri Block Walk, with a pa site and sea views. Walk back through town viewing historic buildings. A free pamphlet with detailed information is available from the town Information Centre.
This intermediate track goes through the bush around the back side of the golf course and has many steps to climb/descend. An alternate track is now in place (some parts still being metalled) plus a rougher track and a bridged stream to walk through at the northeast (Rings Rd) end. You will find many places to picnic and stops to enjoy.
NOTE: A large amount of upgrades and renovations have taken place on the track in the last 6 months of 2023/ 24, and while the old steps are still inplace they are have become very over grown. It is much nicer and recomended that you follow the new track layout.
Watch for direction signs at several points where the track branches from other tracks, they are a blue triangle or a Yellow M, directing you onto the main track on the southwest end.
