Conservation Tours
Step into Driving Creek’s regenerating native forest on a one hour guided walk. Become part of the ongoing mission to protect our ngahere.
Activity Description:
Your guide will lead you along unpaved tracks and stairs, past a historic goldmine site, into a 1.6 hectare predator-proof sanctuary, and through a nīkau grove where you’ll pause for tea made from native tree leaves. Keep an eye out for glow worms and cave wētā, and listen for the calls of rare native species such as pāteke, kiwi, tūī, North Island kākā, kererū and pīwakawaka.
Driving Creek is a not-for-profit, and every booking helps fund predator control, planting and biodiversity research across more than 300 hectares of protected forest, including a 24 hectare QEII covenanted property and neighbouring land under restoration.
Tours run in most weather, so bring comfortable shoes and a jacket. A moderate level of fitness is needed for the uneven terrain, and please note the tour isn’t wheelchair accessible.
