En route to Fantail Bay and about 30 min north of Colville you will pass the historic Paritu Granite Wharf (1559 Port Jackson Rd), which was built in 1918. Large blocks of “granite” (quartz diorite) were once shipped to Auckland and used in government buildings. Quarrying ended in the 1960s, though in the early 1990s Moehau quarry was reopened for the refurbishment of Parliament House. At high tide you may see rays swimming below the end of the wharf.
