Roadtrip to Coromandel town

It’s really easy to get here, and it’ll only take you 2.5 hours from the centres of Auckland, Hamilton or Tauranga.

Once you have passed the township of Thames you can set your clocks to ‘Coromandel time‘ a local expression for the laid back culture which encourages a relaxed atmosphere that is better understood once experienced.

From Thames it’s about an hours travel along  the coast. A picturesque and pleasant coastal road winds its way up the western side of the Peninsula. Enjoy stunning views with many photo opportunities.

We can recommend you stop 10 minutes past Thames at Waiomu Beach Cafe for excellent coffee and refreshments.

Intercity will get you as far as Thames where you can catch the Coromandel Thames Connector service every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
