The Star and Garter Hotel has a long history, going back to the Boom and Bust years of the gold rush in the town. The original hotel was situated where the local supermarket is now. It burnt down during the great fire in the 1800s.The second Star and Garter, rebuild after the fire, was demolished in the 1970s when old buildings weren’t valued so much. Today’s building didn’t become the Star and Garter until the early 2000’s and used to be the local drapery  Eventually it was restored and turned into the cool historic bar it is now.

The Star and Garter sits right in the centre of town – you can’t miss it when you come into town. The bar is spacious and definitely has that feel of the good old days. There is a huge wooden bar, comfy armchair seating arrangements, dining tables, bar stool tables, and an outdoor area in the back. They serve food from (award winning Peppertree Restaurant). Sunday nights is $10 dollar wood fired pizza night, with $1.00 from each purchase donated to a local group or service. There is a pool table in the back, a blazing wood fire in winter, and often live music.
